This note is to draw your attention to four facts of life:
- Java and JavaScript are two extremely different languages.
- JavaScript is the de facto scripting language of the WWW.
- JavaScript has major advantages over Java.
- Java has major advantages over JavaScript.
In view of the current hype behind Java, the following conclusion emerges:
if you do not know much about the difference between Java and JavaScript and you are about to develop an OR/MS application for the WWW using Java, then ...... take a short break and consult an expert. It may well be that it would be better to develop the application using JavaScript.
