Moshe's DP book! A very popular puzzle among math teachers. Indeed, it appears on a number of very popular lists!
I decided to take a formal look at it only very recently and to my big surprise I quickly discovered that the treatment of this puzzle in the official literature only scratches the surface.
So .... during my 2002 sabbatical I decided to investigate this gem more thoroughly. I published the results in a recent paper.
Sniedovich, M., OR/MS Games: 4. The joy of egg-dropping in Braunschweig and Hong Kong, INFORMS Transactions on Education, 4(1) 48-64, 2003. (PDF).I may be able to find the original HTML version of the article that provides interactive modules for ths puzzle. It was somehow (temporaily?) lost.
In any case, I highly recommend this article to lecturers who teach subjects that are related to decision-making under uncertainty.
